About Our District
Thoughts on schools? Join our digital discussion

December 4, 2007

Now that I’m several months into my new role as superintendent of Mounds View Public Schools, I’ve concluded that leading a school district is every bit as exciting as it is challenging.

You won’t be surprised to learn that test scores continue to keep Mounds View a Top 10 district, and I think our reputation among the metro’s best is well deserved. But to me it’s more important to focus on our current and future challenges than on our past accomplishments.

So, what are the challenges facing our schools and the advantages the District holds? You tell me.

This week, I’m inviting all our residents to participate in an online discussion of our challenges and advantages. For one week, our district is opening our Chalkboard Chatroom where visitors can post and read comments about our schools. I encourage you to visit www.moundsviewschools.org/chat.asp and join the discussion.

When you visit the Chalkboard Chatroom, you’ll see a schoolhouse representing several areas of the District’s strategic plans. The rooms of the schoolhouse represent areas the District strives to address:
* Providing a healthy learning climate
* Sharing leadership and accountability
* Delivering essential curriculum and effective instruction
* Forging meaningful family and community partnerships
* Ensuring financial oversight and stewardship of resources

Which room or rooms of the schoolhouse are of greatest interest or concern to you and why?

After the Chalkboard Chatroom closes, my Cabinet group and I will identify and review major themes from the comments and incorporate the themes into our short-term and long-term strategic planning. Throughout the year, I’ll share our progress through this E-newsletter, “News and Views.”

So please visit www.moundsviewschools.org/chat.asp this week to share your opinions with me and the community as well. I’m eager to hear what you think.
