About Our District You're invited to World Languages forum November 11, 2008 When you are a Top 10 school district like Mounds View Public Schools, one of the dangers is becoming complacent. We simply can’t allow that to happen to Mounds View – thinking our schools’ best efforts to date have become “good enough.” That’s one of the reasons why this year our district has been working on plans to potentially bring world languages back to our elementary schools and middle schools as part of a comprehensive World Languages Program for 2009-2010. For years, we’ve heard persistent feedback from parents asking us to prepare students to compete in a global marketplace by introducing a language in all elementary and middle schools. In response, we’ve been gathering quite a bit of feedback on this initiative – through parent focus groups, feasibility studies with teachers, peer districts and consultant reviews. Next week, the School Board would like to hear more. At the beginning of the 7 p.m. November 18 School Board meeting at Snail Lake Education Center, the Board will host a Focused Forum. The meeting will allow participants to have their questions answered and concerns clarified. Attendees also can share their perspectives which ultimately can influence the direction of the program. I encourage you to consider attending the meeting or watch it live on Cable Channel 20. In the meantime, to learn more about the recent World Languages efforts, visit www.moundsviewschools.org/taskforces.asp. Continuous improvement requires a willingness of all involved to be open to new ideas and approaches as we work to meet the needs of our students. Please join us in this important conversation. |
