About Our District
Schools in touch with health officials

April 28, 2009 -- In response to the recent cases of swine influenza in the United States, our school district is staying in contact with local officials at the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Education.

Throughout Mounds View Public Schools, we have asked our staff and school nurses to observe students for any flu-like or upper respiratory symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing). Staff will direct anyone exhibiting these symptoms to the school nurse.

Federal and state officials are reminding people to observe basic infection control practices for preventing the spread of the flu:

*  Keep your child home from school if he/she is sick, and contact your health care provider if the child exhibits flu-like symptoms.
*  Remind children that the best defense is frequent hand washing (with soap or alcohol-based hand cleaner), and to avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with their hands. Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or doing so in the upper sleeve -- and not your hands -- is also essential.
*  Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious foods.

Be assured that we will continue to work closely with health and education officials at all levels to address any concerns that may arise, and we will communicate updates or other related information at www.moundsviewschools.org.
