Mounds View Schools Support Group for Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

For more information call, (651) 621-7681 and leave your name and phone number.  Leave your address if you would like to be added to the mailing list. Cancellations due to weather will be on the voice mail message.

The Parent Support Group for parents of children with ASD will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning October 13th.

The support group meets from 6:30-8:00 at Sunnyside Elementary in the staff lounge. There will be no meeting in December.

Contact Lynn Peal at 651-621-7681 if you have any question or if you would like to be added to the email/mailing list.

The support group is a combination of new information, discussion and sharing time. It is a great opportunity to meet other families and to become connected within your community.

District 621 Special Education Parent and Professional Advisory Council

The SEPPAC is a group of parents and staff whose purpose is to share information and advise the district on behalf of students receiving special education.  The Council welcomes members who represent all schools and programs in the Mounds View School District. We usually meet the 1st Thursday of each month, with the exception of September due to back to school events.

     I am excited to announce the Special Education Parent and Professional Council (SEPPAC) topics and meeting schedule for the coming year.  We will be advising the district on the secondary transition process for students receiving special education services as well as communication between parents and staff. 
We are currently looking for members to commit to the 2009-2010 school year, which means attending all 6 meetings this year as best you can.  Meetings dates are as follows:
 

2009 – 2010 SEPPAC Meeting Schedule (total 6 meetings)

All meetings are 6:45 – 8:15 at the Snail Lake Education Center, IMC conference room.

ADHD Support Group - District 622:

All adults are welcome to our group. You do not need to live in District 622 in order to attend. We ask that you do not bring children to meetings but they are welcome to attend our childcare. We meet on the second Monday of the month from October to April from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the District Education Center (DEC), 2520 E. 12th Ave., North St. Paul. Please make childcare reservations at least one week before every meeting. Call 651-748-7594 and leave a message with your name and phone number and the names and ages of your child(ren).

What is Transition Planning?

Planning is a process to help you reach your personal goals

 

Independent Living :The skills necessary to fully participate in life in the home, including cooking, money management, personal grooming, etc.

Travel and Community  Involvement The skills needed to access community resources including people, public places and activities such as transportation and government agencies, volunteerism, activities or organizations the student may want to incorporate into his or her adult life.

Recreation & Leisure Activities :The initiation and development of group and/or individual recreation and social skills and activities (e.g. hobbies, socialization, etc.)

Personal Management Skills: Learn how to plan and perform your daily living activities.

Medical Services:Learn how to access medical care and advice.

Advocacy and Legal Services: Learn how to speak up for yourself and to understand the legal system
