2009-2010 school calendar finalized
The School Board approved the 2009-2010 school year to begin on September 8, 2009. This decision was made after the Minnesota House Finance Committee voted against the proposed legislation that would let schools pick a pre-Labor Day start. Celebrate 25 years with Chalkboard Capers
Chalkboard Capers is a variety show written, produced and performed by Mounds View Public Schools employees to raise money for student scholarships. Scholarships, in the amount of $621 are awarded to graduating seniors from Irondale High School, Mounds View High School, Oak Grove High School, Area Learning Center and Adult Basic Education. The number of scholarships awarded depends on the financial success of the show. Please support Mounds View Public Schools by attending one of the following shows at Irondale High School (auditorium), 2425 Long Lake Road, New Brighton:

April 1 at 5 p.m.
April 2 at 6:30 p.m.
April 3 at 6:30 p.m.
April 4 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Budget update
As the budget process continues to develop for the 2009-2010 school year, final reductions of $1.5 million have been identified. Included in these reductions:

* A $10 fee increase for all high school co-curricular, fine arts and non-athletic activities.
* A reduction of 6.4 classroom teaching positions in response to declining enrollment.
* An additional reduction of 5 classroom teaching positions, raising class sizes on average by about one student per class.
* A voluntary salary freeze offered by the Superintendent, Cabinet, managers and directors.
* A halt on hiring pending reviews of vacant positions.
* District administration reductions in support staff, eliminating approximately 6 full-time positions.
* Non-salary reductions in supplies and other services.
* Program reductions in special education
* Area Learning Center staff reductions.

Brochures are also available in elementary school front offices and at the District office. Registration closes May 4.




'Not Wrong Doesn't Make It Right'
Author Barbara Coloroso will present "Just Because It's Not Wrong Doesn't Make It Right" at Mounds View High School on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. Parents will learn to create a moral road map and will address everyday situations and proper responses to bad behavior. This event is open to the public at no charge.
