  Elementary Schools Middle Schools High Schools Co-curriculars Special ServicesAlternative Programs Community Education Laurentian Environmental Center Elementary SchoolsDistrict 621 students attend one of six K-5 elementary schools. These schools follow the adopted District curriculum in all subject areas and meet all state curriculum requirements. All schools are served by specialists in areas such as art, world language, music, physical education, science, special education, and media. An attempt is made to provide for the unique needs of all students by providing educational opportunities through special education, high potential programs and primary individual learning plans. Visit the elementary schools.  Middle SchoolsStudents in grades 6-8 attend middle schools designed to meet the needs of early adolescent children. All middle schools provide a comprehensive curriculum, including art, communication skills, health, home economics, industrial education, mathematics, music, physical education, science and social studies. In addition, enrichment opportunities or electives are offered in vocal, band, and orchestral music; computer literacy; art and drama; writing; academic competitions; intramural athletics; and foreign languages. High SchoolsThe two high schools, Irondale and Mounds View, offer a comprehensive program accredited by the North Central Association. A broad spectrum of electives help meet students' needs ranging from college preparatory, special education, vocational/technical, and work-study. Mentorship opportunities and college-level courses are also offered to prepare students for college advanced placement. Recently, Mounds View Public Schools has had one of the highest number of National Merit Scholars in the state of Minnesota. Our academic teams continue to win awards in state and national competition. Approximately 80% of our high school graduates continue in some form of higher education, either collegiate or vocational. Visit the high schools. Co-curriculars The schools at all levels have a wide range of co-curricular activities which include award-winning vocal, band, and orchestral programs. Students involved in school publications, speech, athletics, academic problem solving, and other special activities regularly advance to state, national, and international levels of competition. Special Services Special Services offers a wide range of programs for students with special needs. The istructional programs include: Special Education, Title I, English as a Second Language, Indian Education, Homebound Instruction, and Adapted Physical Education. The District provides additional support to students when appropriate through school psychologists, school social workers, educational speech/language clinicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school nurses, and chemical education specialists. Alternative Programs Occupational education and alternative programs are designed to meet the needs of elementary and secondary students. Secondary schools offer programs in business education, home economics and industrial education. In addition, on-the-job training programs are available to District students. All students study career awareness with exploration and preparation offered at the appropriate level. Students in grades 11 and 12 have the option to spend part of their school day at Northeast Metro Technical Center 916 to explore and develop career skills. Alternative programs are available for high school age students who benefit from nontraditional learning strategies. The District 621 Area Learning Center has been designated as one of four exemplary area learning centers in the state.  Community EducationThe District's Community Education department offers a variety of programs and services which are held in the schools throughout the District. Services available through Community Education are: Adult Basic Education, Adult and Youth Enrichment Classes, Community School Use, Computer Training, Early Childhood Family Education, Family Literacy, Senior Citizens (including Home Delivered Meals, Transportation, and Senior Dining), Parent Resource Center, Emergency Food Shelf, Youth Development opportunities, Youth Service Learning, and Youth Summer Programs. Descriptions of programs and classes offered through the Community Education Department are mailed in August, January and March to all District residents. More on Community Education Laurentian Environmental Center Laurentian Environmental Center is a residential environmental learning center operated by the District. It is located 14 miles north of Virginia, Minnesota, within the boundaries of the Superior National Forest.
