Teacher of the Year

October 13, 2009 -- Mounds View High School's Orchestra Director, John Madura, was named Teacher of the Year for 2009 by MNSOTA, the Minnesota branch of the American String Teacher's Association. Madura's award will be presented at a MNSOTA string teacher's clinic and luncheon on Thursday, October 15. MNSOTA is the main professional organization for orchestra and private violin, viola, cello, bass, harp and guitar teachers.


Irondale senior named All-American

October 5, 2009 -- Jimmy Gjere, a senior at Irondale High School, was recognized as one of Minnesota’s best high school football players when he was named a U.S. Army All-American and asked to play in the 10th anniversary U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The All-American title follows a number of other awards including being selected last season as the North Suburban Conference offensive lineman of the year. Irondale students featured on Wheaties box

October 2, 2009 -- Irondale High School students (pictured left to right) Mark Braun, Robbie Willhelm and Lucas Braun won their second national championship in March as part of the Minnesota Junior Rolling Timberwolves and their team was named one of the nation's best high school wheelchair basketball programs. They were featured on a Wheaties box (pictured below) that was released in May. In October, Robbie and Mark joined a select group of 12 NWBA Junior division athletes to compete with Team USA at the Inaugural Australian Youth Paralympic Games in Australia. Team USA won the gold medal.





A Top 10 school district

September 28, 2009 -- Mounds View Public Schools ranked among the top 10 districts in the state for the most National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. In total, five Mounds View High School students and two Irondale High School students were named semifinalists. In addition Mounds View High School's Maimuna Lubega and Irondale High School's Keziah Ojika were named National Achievement Scholars.

Irondale student nominated to compete in national award program

September 29, 2009 -- Michelle Wheeler, a senior at Irondale High School, has been nominated to compete in the national Principal’s Leadership Award (PLA) scholarship program, cosponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and Herff Jones, Inc. One hundred national PLA winners will be chosen this spring to receive college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $12,000. Wheeler was selected based on her leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, and her academic record. She serves as the student council president and is a member of the National Honor Society. Next fall she plans to attend St. Olaf College or Gustavus Adolphus College where she will major in Secondary Education.

Connor Duffy, an eighth-grader at Chippewa Middle School, was named the winner of the Minnesota Junior High Math League Radicals Division after earning a perfect score at all five math meets that took place over the course of the Minnesota Junior High Math League season.    [View]
