May 17, 2009 -- Turtle Lake Elementary School Math Masters Brandon Duffy, Sam Rush, Grant Delaune, Furqan Syed and Steven Skwarek were recognized as one of the top three teams in the state recently after being awarded third place for their overall Math Masters performance this school year. The team will be honored at the June 18 Minnesota Twin's game. At an April 25 regional competition, Brandon Duffy won first place among 164 participants in the Number Facts and Operations segment followed by Sam Rush in second place and Steven Skwarek in 13th place. Turtle Lake students Grant Delaune, Brandon Duffy, Sam Rush, Steven Skwarek and Furqan Syed succeeded 33 teams to win the first place team trophy. Evan Mattson, Connor Nelson, John Reim, Sean Fennig, and Howard Simms placed 12th in the team competition.
