District students earn national recognition for Spanish scores

May 26, 2009 -- Recently, Mounds View Public Schools Spanish students earned national recognition for their abilities in Spanish Language and Cultures with high rankings on the National Spanish Exam and award-winning work at the Festival Quijote. 

More than 100 District students (in levels 1-4) placed nationally on the National Spanish Exam with more than 50 students ranking above the 75th percentile. Click here for a list of Irondale High School students. Click here for a list of Mounds View High School students. The NSE is a national exam taken by Spanish students across the country. About 25,000 students take the exam at each level (1-6), and students earn honors based on their national percentile ranking.  

District high schools swept both the advanced and beginning composition categories at the Festival Quijote competition with nearly 30 entries ranking in the top three in the following categories: children's literature, composition, demonstration video, poetry, travel poster, recitation and more. Festival Quijote is a state Spanish competition where students display their talents in several categories. The entries are judged by area Spanish teachers and native speaker judges.
